The Wick is described on the council's website as a nature reserve, although I'm not sure why - I think it's definitely a park, and a good one for dogs. You can access it from Marshal's Drive or Sandpit Lane, although I've only used the Marshal's Drive entrance. Park your car on the street (Apparently it's the wealthiest one in St Albans) next to the railings, and enter the park through the gate. Please close the gate behind you - the park is enclosed and safe, but it only takes a forgetful person to leave the dogs vulnerable.

Walk down the path and you'll hit an open green. No need for a lead, the dogs can run about as they like. When we were there, a children's football session was in swing, but my dog ignored it. If yours isn't a football hater, you might want to put the lead on. Walk through the green and into the woods the the bottom of the field. Weave through the paths, have a play on the playground equipment if you're a small child, and have fun chasing around in the empty ditches and across the footbridges. It's probably safe for rugged buggies because the paths are pretty wide and flat, and the bridges are wheel friendly, but don't take my word as definite, as I don't have a buggy.

It's not a long walk at all. A circuit for us was half a mile, but if you're only after a quick, safe walk, this is ideal.
