From the Martello Tower follow the footpath South along the track keeping the river on your left. When you reach the beech you can either drop down onto the beech (may only be possible when tide is out) or follow path along top of sea defenses. There is then about 3km of beech to walk along which is much quieter than the adjacent Camber Sands (I went in October so dogs allowed on beech but you may need to check for other times of year). Go past the groynes and re-join the footpath just before Rye Bay Caravan Park. Pick up the public footpath that goes along in front of the houses along The Ridge. Keep on this footpath which runs to the south of a lake called Nook Beech. Just before you get back to Harbor Road turn right on the footpath to find your way back to the tower.
