Park in the lane just off Coursers Rd - potholed & v bumpy - the Heath is on your right. This is a lovely heathland walk, some fields, a little bit of woodland & a stream. You could extend the walk by walking towards some fishing lakes formed from old gravel pits further south. After parking in the lane off Coursers rd, enter the heath -( there is a poo bin at this end of the heath & one at the other end near the bridge). You can choose the open heathland for a lovely run around following the stream (River Colne) which runs parallel to Colney Heath High St, at the very end there is a rd bridge crossing the stream so care needs to be taken here as although not busy there may be some traffic. you could cross the stream here & come back on the opposite side of the heath along the stream, past cottages & back across the stream (its usually shallow enough to cross on foot unless there has been heavy rain) to where you started by Coursers rd. This side of the heath is not fenced off to the rd or houses so you would need to know that your pooch is reliable or use a lead. this is probably a 45 min walk, but plenty of open space for ball play etc. It is usually very dry unless there has been very heavy rain.

For a longer walk, from the car park (lane) you could take the woodland path instead & then cross a stile on the left through a field ( sometimes horses in the next field) & then through a gate into a farmers field, here you can either:

1. Go right & follow the path around the edge of the field to another stile into another field & the follow round to the right over a mound or through a gate & then right back onto the heath via a small lane alongside water treatment works (leads on here).

2. Go straight ahead through the farmers field towards a footpath by farm buildings, around a field of horses & then the path goes through the lakes over the gravel pit conveyor belt into Tyttenhanger woods, turn right & follow the path back around the main lake, past a bird hide & eventually back to meet the stream/river on your left. there is a little rd to the gravel pit which has to be crossed - stay to the right & back to wards the heath again
