Dog walk in Northamptonshire

We have walked our dogs at this park over the last 15 years; it's a great place for using up lots of energy!

There is a flat walk which even grandma can do yet it's still interesting as it takes you through not just the meadow area but also the flat low parts known as White stones reflecting the limestone that can be seen and found in Northamptonshire.

The history of the open mining with rail tracks (the flat parts) is scattered around the park with information if you want to read about it. Iron stone was mined here, that's the golden brown to red brown stone found in Northamptonshire that gives some of the village houses their beauty.

The gully and wood areas can be muddy and slippy and the wooden steps are steep but there are wooden wire covered boardwalks over the soggy parts. You do need to be pretty fit and well shod to tackle this part of the park.

Your dog will be able to soak up an array of interesting smells and ponds and spot rabbits in the woods. Humans can look out for all the stuff some of us used to pick, fish for or net as kids,

There aren't any toilets nor refreshments but you can take a picnic or head off to the local villages for very decent pub food which are close by in three directions (Twywell, Cranford or Woodford)

Lovely walk, not too busy on a Saturday afternoon in June. Kids and dogs enjoyed running through the fields of long grass and wild flowers. Thanks for listing it :)
