Description

There's several trails in this forest park, right in the heart of the Trossachs.

As you hit Aberfoyle, go straight through the town. As you pass the co op, the road branches right up a hill. Instead of following the turn, go straight through. You'll pass a small school on your right. Keep going till you see the sign for Loch Ard on your left. It's a fairly sharp turn. Follow this trail, which can be a bit muddy in bits in the wet seasons, until you see a car park to your left (about a mile up the road). There is a toilet block and picnic facilities here, and most importantly a trail map. I recommend the red trail. That means following the trail to the far right of the car park. This trail intersects with the "sculpture trail" for the kids, and is an easy, well marked medium length (5ish miles) walk through pleasant forests. There's plenty of interesting art works, including a giant metal dragonfly and a totem pole en route, plus picnic benches placed in locations with stupendous views out across Loch Ard and into the hills. The trails all form circuits of various lengths from 3-12km, and I guarantee happy pooches and owners at the end.

There are plenty of facilities in the town, which is only a mile or so down the road, and they're well used to dog walkers and visitors alike. A pretty wee town with some fantastic walks in beautiful countryside only an hour from Glasgow. My advice -stay the week!
