Long Rock Beach is between Marazion and Penzance, accessed through long rock and then a small road adjacent to a Car Rental company. It's one of the places in the area where you can walk the dogs on a beach all year, but is a low tide only location for safety. There's not much beach at high tide and you'd certainly want to stay off the area if its stormy. There are no facilities.
At low tide the beach extends for quite a way and there's shallow water. At high time the slope of the beach at the back means that water gets deep quickly and during storms we avoid taking the dogs there. Parking is free after 4pm, and it's a very popular place for the locals to take their dogs. There's a path parallel to the railway line which backs the beach (part of the South West Coast Path) and this is accessible in all but the worst weather conditions. Please bear in mind that during storms the sea wall has in the past been breached, so caution and common sense should prevail.
From the car park you can nearly walk the mile or so into Penzance. The walk, once you get past the pebbles on the berm, is flat and Sandy. The flat sand extends well out past low tide mark, so there's plenty of opportunity for the dogs to get wet - the humans also. It's not crowded - it's a natural beach. There's a view of St Michael's Mount, right across to The Lizard and westwards to Penzance harbour. And the dogs will find friends there.

Be warned...dogs are NOT allowed on this beach in the summer. The information given above, by John, is incorrect, out-of-date and misleading. Long Rock is NOT an all-year-round dog walking beach, as stated, as it is subject to Cornwall Council's seasonal restrictions. The restrictions apply to the beach running East, from Long Rock carpark, all the way to Marazion. Dogs are ONLY allowed on the beach from July 1st to September 1st before 10.00 and after 18.00. There are information signs at all the main entrances to the beaches of Mount's Bay explaining the bans and restrictions. Long Rock is a popular beach with families who choose it because it is safe and dog free during the summer and who don't take kindly to dog walkers who either unwittingly or deliberately ignore the restriction. Don't be surprised to be confronted by beach-goers informing you of the restrictions. Also don't get caught out by the dog warden who has been known to patrol this beach! On a positive note dogs are allowed on the beach West of Long Rock carpark towards Penzance where you will be in good company for your walkies and there are plenty of other places to walk your dog, nearby, not subject to any bans. For example there is a fine walk along the along the SWCP/Cycleway that runs above the beach and inland where there are numerous footpaths which are often cooler and less busy during the hot, summer months when dogs (and some owners) find the beach too hot. Finally the Cornwall Council carpark at Long Rock is no longer cheap. The tariffs have been brought into line with the council's other facilities. -

Keeping strictly to the seasonally allowed area, there is plenty of scope at low/mid tide for a terrific run all year. Just listen to LongRocker1 who clearly knows all the restrictions. It's been a favourite of ours for donkey's years.
