Fforest Fawr woodland is near Castell Coch, one of the most picturesque castles in Wales. There are three walking trails from the Fforest Fawr car park including a sculpture trail for families, and another walking trail from the Castell Coch car park. Fforest Fawr is a mixed woodland and it has patches of bluebells, wood anemones and wild garlic in the spring. Fantastic fir dogs to explore all year round.

We went midweek and it wasn’t too busy, which is great because we had a handful of opportunities to let both dogs off their leads. The forest creates a blanket from the sun too, which we also liked. Bring water with you as we couldn’t find the water outlet that was advertised on here, so dogs were a bit thirsty after their walkies. -

Started the walk from Forest Fawr carpark and took the circular 'Sir Henry's Trail' towards Castell Coch. It was a gentle meandering path, except the last descent towards the castle in which it got quite steep. The ascent back was also semi-steep. There were a few streams dotted around off the trail if your dog gets thirsty. -

Fantastic walk in the heart of the natural woodland forest. It is in a lovely location above the beautiful Castell Coch and is my favourite dog walk. My dog can run free and I can admire the trees in different seasons. There are many trails, some hilly, but they're worth the effort and there are wood sculptures to view.
