Owley wood is an ancient, semi-natural woodland on the steep banks of the River Weaver and part of the Mersey Forset. The canopy is dense and dominated by ash, English oak and sycamore, with occasional sweet chestnut and birch. Scattered willow line the woodland edge where it borders the River Weaver.
Owley wood is a real gem, boasting some impressive and imposing oak trees, along with other traditional woodland habitats that provide an important stepping stone in the landscape for creatures like bats, butterflies and of course birds. A steep decline into the wood with typical woodland footpaths dotted with the occasional wooden foot bridges to assist crossings over the various streams that lead into the River Weaver. In wetter months wellys are a must.

We enjoyed this walk today, some little arrows or signs for which walks are best would be useful for new comers. Lovely river and my dog enjoyed the stream, steep steps back up got our hearts racing! -

Great short walk, very muddy so don't forget your wellies. Lots of steps to climb so not great for small children if looking for a family walk -

A welcome, shady stop-off on the way to a longer walk. Nice cooling dip for the boys.
