A fabulous short one-mile roundtrip walk from the hamlet of Throop to Turners Puddle and returning via a different path to Throop. 99% off-road. In that short distance there are four great places for a paddle or a swim in the River Piddle! Roadside parking at postcode DT2 7JD

Recommended as above original post. The route of the loop is well signposted from the parking place. Path condition excellent though may be soft underfoot in Winter or wet conditions -

Only found 2 of the water stops, both excellent but must have missed half the walk. Lots of route signs but for longer trails specifically. Could do with a route map. -

Think I went to the right place. It was more heathland but still had a good walk -

Very muddy, water across the path, council have dragged a fallen tree and left it where the cars could park!! -

Well the tree has gone so there is space to park but it’s still very muddy (dog needs a bath!!) and only passable in gumboots! -

Absolutely beautiful spot. Park on road and head following the gravel road makes by green circle.( lots of other markers for longer walks apparently) 2x clear stream crossings for poosticks and paddling then turn left at farm and left again at next junction to go along watermeadows full of iris. It was fab ! -

Really lovely shorter walk for the summer days… so your dog can keep cool in the fords and rivers that you pass. -

A return visit today to one of my favourite walkies locations. The River Puddle was a tad low, so water flow was a bit pathetic - otherwise I had a great time! -

We visited this spot whilst on holiday in Dorset 07/07/23, easy to get to and the water is very clear, my son and the pooch were enjoying the water 😃 -

Here in Throop we (not the council) provide a dog poo bin for the benefit of all dog owners. Some use it but sadly judging by the quantity of dog muck on the track, many do not. Here is an example of what one such dog owner clearly thinks is acceptable behaviour. Bag it up and then hang it in a tree, (Unfortunately I can not add the photo of the dog poo bag so will post it separately) two weeks ago a lady with 5 dogs was seen to pick the muck up, bag it and chuck it over the ditch into a field. As a resident it doesn’t endear one to dog walkers. Madog
