This is a canal side walk along the Basingstoke Canal. The return is back along the same route. To start the walk, make you way to the Barley Mow Pub, near Winchfield - Post code is RG27 8DE. From here, directly opposite is a small road whereupon you will find a small but free car park next to the Basingstoke Canal. Park here and follow the canal to the left along the tow path. The path will take you for approx 1 mile where upon you will come to a stone bridge. There are no signs to help you, but as a bit of a landmark, there are some large concrete cylinders on the far side of the canal which were positioned during WWll to stop tanks advancing. At this bridge, cross the river and go through the farm style gate and walk a few yards almost back on yourself (but the other side of the canal). After about 50 yards there is an open area to your left in front of Tundry Pond. This is very picturesque and if you continue to walk to the arched bridge, it brings you into the outer reaches of the Four Seasons Hotel at Dogmersfields grounds. Ideal spot for a picnic along the banks of the pond. Retrace your steps to wendle your way back to the car park where you can dump you kit and saunter across the road to the Barley Mow for a well earned drink!

Thanks for this walk, we did it today. If you turn left at the arched bridge (i.e. towards the hotel) then take the first footpath right after about 50 yards you can walk through fields of cattle along a well maintained path to connect back to the Basingstoke Canal, and continue back to the Barley Mow, making it a pleasant circular walk of about 3 miles, very nice. It's well signposted, just be careful when you go past the bull (also well signposted!) -

Thats great - Thank You "hareand" - I shall try that variation, though will have to make sure one of my dogs is on the lead as she is a devil with cows! -

We went to do this walk yesterday (21st April 2017), and found that the towpath was closed due to a landslide. Best give it a while before you give it a go. -

Thanks for this walk. It was great and the pond is beautiful. We followed the tip in the comments about making it a circular walk, going back via the canal. The path is fenced in so no need to worry about the cows. Alternatively, you could turn right at the arched bridge and cross it go back on the footpath through the fields and Arch Plantation woods to return to the Barley Mow. -
