A beautiful walk through woodland next to the Mells river. The area is steeped in industrial history and a site of special scientific interest. Popular for dogs in summer as the river is accessible and it is flat and the path is gravel but can get muddy and slippery in wet conditions. There are several paths and the main path goes to Mells, or the East Mendip Way is accessible going South.

Absolutely beautiful walk that my dogs loved. We came across other walkers but not so many that it made it difficult with two very friendly dogs. I would advise wellies if it has been raining for sure. -

Lovely walk - my 3 dogs really enjoyed the water. Will be returning on a drier day as I really needed wellies but the rain didn’t stop play for the dogs 😊 -

We tried this walk earlier today. It was a little muddy in places (where isn't in February?) It was so peaceful and lots of fun for our 10 month old Border Collie, with lots of places for him to paddle. We will definitely be going here again. -

This is great for dogs and kids. Places to safely paddle, lots of different roots. Our local childhood play area. Paths get extremely muddy in places with a drop of rain so wellies needed. The river meanders through an old quarry area and there is historical points. If you start your walk Frome end at the bottom of Egfird Hill you can walk althe way through to Mells, stopping at what is locals call ‘The Duck Pond’ at Great Elm. Across the bridge carry the walk on through to Mells which takes you through the old site of Fussells Ironworks (google it). Mells itself has a thriving cafe and pub if you don’t take a picnic. Beautiful walk for dogs and families alike, particularly good fun walk for kids. The route from Great Elm through to Mells you will find a rope swing over the river. A really good day out. -

Lovely walk along the river. Shaded for the summer, nice and flat, great for my dog to jump in and out of the water. -

Been once with my pup, introducing him to water, it's great because there are shallow areas for paddling. The area is beautiful with great history. Looking to explore more of this walk.
