About this walk

A lovely walk along the river starting at the tythe barn, You can then veer off right where the path splits and follow the walk through many open fields to a lovely dog friendly pub then come back. Does get very busy in the summer or half terms.

Flat but not boring, when it’s hot my dog loves to swim in the Ford.

Great for dogs and kids. Parking can be roadside but best to park at the very end of the trains station car park. Walk through end of car park, the is a small children’s playground on your left and a small area of arty shops where you can get a cup of tea and ice cream. There is also a Tythe Barn. The river is very shallow here with a small bridge over it, this is where kids and dogs splash about in the summer. To have a great walk go up the path, with the Tythe barn and buildings to your left, away from river, up the steps to the canal at the top. The path to the left, will take you to two good pubs and the main through the town, 2 minute walk. For your walk go right along the path, canal on your left and down below is the river. After 10minutes you come to a small bridge over the canal and to the right there is a sharp turnoff taking you down to the river and this river path will take you back to the Tythe barn, play area. If you want a longer walk, continue on past the bridge and you will arrive at the Cross Guns pub at Avoncliffe, about another 10/15 minutes. Great pub food with lots of outside seating by the river. Very limited inside seating though. Wheelchair access to seating by the river non existent as the garden is tiered so you would have to stay up by the pub. Coming back the same route you can again come by the river, the start of this route back is grassy path part way. Busy popular spot in nice weather but still plenty of picnic areas where grass it kept well.
