The Wensum Way is a Norfolk trail 12 miles long, but you can access part of it on this hour long walk around part of the Sparham Pools nature reserve. Access to the reserve’s free car park is off Lyng Road, just by Pockthorpe, a tiny hamlet on the edge of Lyng close the River Wensum. From the car park you can walk around the reserve (under 1 mile / 20 mins) or venture out the far left corner along the Wensum Way towards Lenwade. At the junction to continue through to Lenwade at a wooden foot bridge and stile gate, take a left up the grassy tree-laden alley, which once through the stile ascends quite steeply up through a local farmer’s cow field. Once at the top turn around to take in the beautiful view over the valley and lakes. Continue towards the old cow shed ruins and through the stile, turn left and follow the grass lane until you nearly reach the road. Turn left there and walk back towards Lyng along the verge of the field. At the end you will have to walk along the road for approx’ 100m until you reach the entrance back to the car park.
Walk distance is just under 2 miles.

From A1067 travel towards Lyng and entrance is on the left before you go over the bridge to enter Lyng village. From Dereham go all the way through Lyng village and over the bridge, entrance is on the right about 160 meters.
