The car park is set at the top of the hill on the corner of Hare lane, in Buckland St. Mary. It is a small car park, but free and has picnic tables set out. Follow the path into the woods and veer to the left and up a small incline which opens out to a grassy area. To the right is a bench with stunning views across the valley ( on a clear day). There is a info board telling you about the motte and bailey castle (which isn't there now so don't be disappointed there's no castle).
This is forestry commission owned and there are colour coded wooden markers to follow depending on the length of walk you want to do. The walk I do is about 2-3 miles and is a loop which starts by going down hill.... A flatish part then a steep ( very) part to go back up but you can explore and make your own way around. Do take wellies especially during the winter months as it can be muddy. During the summer you can easily manage in trainers
The walk is dog friendly but not so for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Lovely walk. Only crossed 1 road to get over to Mount Fancy farm reserve where we saw some cattle. Wonderful scenery and good sign posted -

Good walk, lots of different directions of travel. Muddy as heck in the winter, take wellies and expect a smelly muddy dog when you’re done. No poo bins so take your waste home with you. -
