A lovely, flat, forest trail walk (approx 3.5 miles return route) around Loch Morlich near Aviemore and the Cairngorm mountain area. The Cairngorms is a large national park and there are numerous walks, picnic spots and outdoor activities (canoeing/clay pidgeon shooting/ ski-ing/ mountain biking/ archery/ fishing) all within 15mins.
Park in the Loch Morlich Watersports/ Glen More caravan Car park (there is a small fee for this). Head south through the forest passing the toilet block to your left with the waters edge 50 meters to your right. Continue south east until you reach the outflow of the Abhainn Ruigh River. Stay left here for about 300 m until you reach a footbridge to cross, then turn right back towards the Loch. At the next path split- stay right. Walk towards the forestry commission access road. Bear right again and just keep an eye out for the ocassional forestry commission vehicle. After another half an hour you will reach a sign on the right marked "Loch Morlich Circular". Take this route and pass into Rothiemurchus forest over a small footbridge. After a while the path meets the forestry commission track again, which leads you back to the main road. Cross the bridge by Glenmore Lodge and walk along the road for a few meters until a way marker takes you back to the waters edge on your right. Here the views of the Loch with the mountain range behind are lovely, particularly in winter (see photo taken Easter 2013). Continue until you reach the sailing club. From here the path is slightly fainter but still good. Shortly before reaching the car park, head down the bank leading onto the sand at the Loch edge. Enjoy!
