About this walk

Fineshade Wood is an ancient mixed broadleaf and conifer woodland with waymarked walks, cycle trails, horse trail, car park and Caravan and Motorhome Club site. The wood contains rich semi-natural native woodland, as well as areas of conifers which are gradually being restored to site-native broadleaf.

There are three waymarked walks available which are mainly surfaced and access to the Jurassic Way Maps of the different walks are available on site.

The café provides rooms where well behaved dogs can join you for a spot of food. Most picnic benches have a clasp that dog leads can be attached to and water bowls are provided. The dogs can go off lead in the wood as long as they are under close control.

A great walk, we took the 3-mile purple route and our 5 month old puppy loved it! The only problem is there are zero bins anywhere on the walk for dog waste bags, and while it says there is water on route, we didn't see any at all. If you want a midday walk, I suggest you take a picnic if eating afterwards, as the lunch options will very limited at the only cafe available (again, no bins seen other than in the ladies washrooms). Paid parking options - £1.50 for 1hr or £4 for the day, there are no in between options - cash only (priced accurate as of Oct 2017). Will definitely go on this walk again!

This is my local go to when the ground is wet. Loads of hard track, trees and places to go off track. Plenty of parking and facilities. You have to pay but its not much. No bins though. Can be busy with bikes and children in the summer but get past enough room to be on your own if you walk away from the main Link →

Fineshade is so much more than the visitor centre. There are endless off-lead dog walks. Which is all great ... so long as you don't bump into too many friends from King's Cliffe!!
