Nice walk around lake, no on lead areas but do need to be careful along guided busway side as fencing is poor. Not a problem if your dog has good recall. It's perfect during summer as it's safe for dogs to swim. There is a large field next to the Holiday Inn hotel which you can get to from the lake. Perfect for a ball game or game of chase with other dogs. My dog loves it there. Downside, people do not always clear up their litter which is a real shame.

Since this walk was added here I guess they have put a fence round the entire lake. We tried the walk today and were disappointed that our dog couldn't swim due to the fence. The field walk part was ok but the access onto the guided busway means it's dangerous for dogs with no recall to be offlead on that side of the field. The traffic noise from the A14 is loud for most of the walk too so not very relaxing. On the flip side, if you're a birdwatcher there are lovely water birds to spot, like great crested grebes, coots and cormorants which is the only positive of the fence around the lake. -

Apparently, the new owners (A private angling company) needed to put up five foot tall galvanised fencing to keep otters out. The locals are not impressed, and suspect it's more to do with keeping out non-paying fishermen. A real shame. It's not off limits, but apparently it's not really a great walk any more. The community website has a press release from the new owners, and a collection of disgruntled comments. Link → -

There is an otter fence around the entire lake and dogs can not swim there as it is now owned by fishing group
