When you arrive at the Great Wood, pat yourself on the back - it is not terrifically well signposted, and by finding it, you did better than I did first time around! There is a visitor centre, but I've never been into it, because my dog is always desperate to get into the woods and get going.
Parking here is an honesty box system. Pop £1 in there to give the lovely Friends of Northaw Woods a donation for all the great stuff they do in keeping the woods going.
There are several paths you can follow through the woods, or choose one of the pre-determined routes (Yellow, blue or red - maps on the website). Choose one, or do what we do and try to combine bits of different ones. We like to walk down through the woods to the river, and our dog loves running into the water and across the foot bridge. Throughout the walks, you'll come to sudden open glades, huge ancient trees, and bits of concrete path, which were built during WWII, just in case an invasion occurred and tanks needed to be used.
Throughout the woods, you'll see all sorts of wildlife, so this is a lovely walk to do with curious children. Why not take a picnic and use one of the many picnic tables we passed on our walk?

This is a really good walk! Lots of different walks with the dogs off the lead, we stuck to the blue and red routes as the yellow route goes round the perimeter and we were worried it may not all be fenced off. Lovely day! -

Today we did this walk . We did the yellow trail quite hilly and very muddy in places .it took us quite a bit longer than the map said but maybe due to the Link → boxer dog thoroughly enjoy this walk and we hope to come back sometime. -

Lovely walk that took around 40 mins on the clearly signposted blue walk. We took a picnic too as there are lots of tables enroute. Muddy, so boots recommended, but beautiful. -

Not greatly sign posted but still worth a visit as various routes available to walk. Is quite hilly and rough ground in places so would not recommend this for wheelchair users.
