Start in Barley village- car park fee is an honesty box - walk across the village green and bear right. Turn left as though going up a house driveway. Go down the side of the house and follow the path (the witches trail) along a stream and up through fields to the foot of Pendle Hill.
You can walk up the stone steps / path up to the summit and across the top for amazing 360 degree views inc Blackpool tower. Or can cut left near the foot of the hill for a shorter less strenuous walk.
There are sheep in the fields leading up to the hill and the occasional sheep on the hill and top.
If you go up and over it's a pretty good marked path down past a reservoir ( where you can follow the witches trail further) or walk back into barley.
There's a cafe and toilets and picnic site at Barley car park but also a few dog friendly pubs which serve food.
There's also B&Bs
I think to the top across and back do wh is about 5 miles but can take different routes for shorter or longer.

Great walk, not for the faint hearted though if you don't like inclines!
