A circular walk that takes you past Falkirk Wheel, Rough Castle Fort, Antonine Wall and along a lovely stretch of the Forth & Clyde Canal. Walk from the car park up to the canal, turn left and cross over the canal, head straight up past the entrance for the Wheel, then go under the Wheel follow the trail up to the left then turn right and follow the signs. There’s two path that lead to Antonine Wall so doesn’t matter which one you choose. When you reach the wall you can go straight over where the Roman buildings were (there’s signs) and take the path that leads back to the Wheel or you can head along the top of the wall as far as you can go, then take a left out of the wall and onto a dirt track that leads down across the railway line and into an industrial & residential area. Keep going straight ahead for about half a mile and you come to a tunnel with a wee stream & a footpath through it (it takes you under the canal) when you exit the tunnel go straight to the road then follow the path to the left which takes you up and round back onto the canal path. Head along the path (Bonnybridge in your left) and eventually you’ll be back at the Wheel.

Lottie loved it!! Tired out the hoomans and after a short rest the loopy spaniel would have done it all again!!

Location details
This is the car park that I always use for this walk. It’s off the roundabout between Camelon & Bonnybridge. Take the exit for the restaurant The Wheelhouse and follow the road to the end. Always loads of space.
