About this walk

Start with pub lunch at the Royal Oak, Poynings then walk it off with a fairly strenuous walk up Devil's Dyke itself. The crowds are up the top of DD still searching for a pay-and-display parking space. Turn left out of the pub and find a footpath a little way down to the right through a garage. If you overshoot, there is a clearer path after the church. It should lead you into the bottom of the Dyke which is then a long, steady, climb that'll make even the fittest pause at the bench at the top. Head right at the top to go to the Devil's Dyke pub car park. Views from there are spectacular. Go west along the top of The South Downs and fairly soon cut downhill on ancient earthworks paths either to The Shepherd and Dog, Fulking (for another pint) or cutting back toward Poynings. Returning to Poynings along the road might be a bit boring in comparison.
