This route takes you into Pullingshill Wood, home to the most complete set of WW1 training trenches in England. If you’re interested, you can find out more via the Archaeology in Marlow ROMADAM Project.
Parking available on the street in the village of Bovingdon Green, or combine with a pub lunch at the dog-friendly Royal Oak (www.royaloakmarlow.co.uk) and ask to use their car park.
If you start at the Royal Oak, turn left out of the car park and walk a few hundred metres up the road before turning first left into Bovingdon Green. Head west along the road through the village. At the end of the road, take the right fork onto a track which curves round to the left.
Just past a tall hedge on the left, take the footpath on the left which heads south-west, between two fields. Follow this path as it descends down a small slope into Davenport Wood. Another path crosses and take this one to the right, heading west into the wood. After about 200 m, take the path that heads off to the left.
The path follows the edge of the wood, bringing out out onto quiet road that runs north-south. Cross over the road and turn right to follow the trench heading north.
The path eventually runs out and you will need to follow the road for about 200 m. At the t-junction, you have two options. You can either turn right along the road or, for a small extension, take the track straight ahead for about 100 m, take the first right and first right again back to the road.
If you followed the road, take the first right down a track, heading east. If you followed the extension, when you reach the road, cross straight over onto the track. The track becomes a path and heads into a field with horses. On the day I did this walk the horses were dog friendly. Continue to follow this path until you reach a stile which takes you onto a track running left/right. Turn left and follow the track as it bends left then right and brings you back into Bovingdon Green.

Lots of lovely open forest to run off leash. Dedicated parking spots for walkways in Marlow common and Pullingshill wood which open up straight onto the woods. Looks like it will be a good shady walk for warmer days.
