About this walk

Allow two hours, walk 6 miles. The walk takes you around the perimeter of what was a major second world war site, Ashley Bombing range. Start from Ashley car park situated on left hand side on Brook-Fordingbridge road, just before Godshill. Start by following the main gravel track from near car park entrance, walking away from road. There is a hill, but not to bad. Continue to follow main track, downhill and into woodland with grassy area. Stay on track, cross small stream then up other side, Pitts Wood Inclosure. You will come to a crossroads, go left and follow track. After about 1/2 mile you will see Amberwood Inclosure gate on right hand side, take the track left opposite the Inclosure gate (you will see an old bombing observation shelter on the left of the track) After about 1&1/2 miles, take track on left hand side. After approx 3/4 of a mile, the track reaches a circular grassy area, cross this diagonally to the right and pick up the track. This then takes you back the way you came to the car park. This is a moderate walk, flat mostly, although initially there is a hill and on the way back it is uphill for short way back to parking. There is a bit of water for the pooches along the way! Keep look out for deer, cows and horses. There is a pub nearby 'The Fighting Cocks' on way into Godshill.
