About this walk

This is a lovely walk that takes you through woodland then right across the parkland in the heart of the estate. Then along the canal. Park in the lay-by you then need to walk back 100 meters or so along the edge of the road (there is no path here but it is possible to get off the road) then turn right following the public footpath up a driveway through the gate houses, follow this driveway up towards the lake the footpath goes past the private lake which is part of Dogmersfield House continue on up through the woods. The footpath is easy to follow then across the estate as is fenced either side of the path, here it opens out to some wonderful views. Continue along the footpath until you reach Tundry pond and just before the pond turn left (west) and continue along the footpath which goes along a track to the canal. When you reach the canal go over the bridge and turn left to follow the towpath with the canal on your left. Keep going along the canal until you reach Broad Oak go up along the footpath which takes you back over the canal and doubles back on itself along the other side of the canal to bring you back through the woods on the far side of the lake follow this footpath back to the road. 5.87km and took us at a leisurely pace 1hr 23 min.

Very difficult to find as there are no signs for the walk and a few misleading “private” signs. Good starting place is to park at the Dogmersfield Estate [Four Seasons Hotel) stables and walk from there. You can park at the front of the stables block (wooden building). Walk straight up the hill and you will find the lake at the end, there are may footpaths around the Estate and you can either take the canal path or just wander about following the footpath signs that are dotted around. Take google maps and you can make your walk as long or short as you like. There are many off lead areas but you will need to take the lead for the lanes with no pavements.
