About this walk

A lovely walk through the mainly pinewood forest. You can park for free at the Hawley Sailing Club and then from there turn left into the wood and follow the pathway which takes you around the lake. The walk around the entire lake takes about 45 minutes. There are also many other pathways you can take, some of which are concreted and some aren't. Mainly off lead for dogs but if you walk around the entire lake on the last part of the walk dogs will need to go on lead as you need to walk along the roadside on the way back to the car park. This is MOD owned land and the soldiers do practice here so you will hear gun shots and sometimes come across soldiers practicing manouevers. So it may not be suitable for nervous dogs

Does this route have anywhere suitable to stop for a bit to eat? Picnic benches/open flat ground etc Thanks

No unfortunately it does not have any benches to sit on. It does have a beach area with lots of sand at the side of the lake which is popular in the summer. We have taken a picnic there before but you would need to take your own picnic blanket or foldaway chairs. Some of the locals also swim in the lake there in the summer from this beach area.

Hi - since these comments were posted, parking is now restricted to permit parking only beyond the first set of MOD gates. The lake and surrounding area are part of the military training area and swimming is strictly forbidden.

Great woodland trails with dog friendly access to hawley lake. Take loads of poo bags as there are not any bins
