About this walk
Calke Abbey is a Grade 1 listed house in Derbyshire in the care of National Trust. There is a free car park near Calke Village and the path from there leads to the walk. Quite easy walking past the reservoir and lakes. Many birds to see, Swans, Cormorants and Ducks. The path takes you through some lovely woods and some areas are hilly but not steep. Dogs must be kept on leads due to wildlife and sheep. You see Deer in the park regularly and at the nd of the walk is a lovely cafe where drinks and food can be purchased. At the end of the car park by the restaurant there is a bird hide and you can see woodpeckers, goldfinches, , blue tits, pheasants and squirrels. taking a camera is a must. Dogs are not permitted in the Abbey itself but you can sit outside to have a drink in the beautiful grounds with your dog. There is another car park which has a fee but if you are a national trust member this is free,
