About this walk

Lea Valley Country Park is huge, and there are so many walks you can go on within it, but our favourite is the dog agility equipment walk. Yes, actual dog agility equipment. Okay, so it's not on a par with the stuff at Bishop's Stortford Southern Country Park, but it's solid wooden stuff, and the dogs love it.

Drive down Windmill Lane, past Cheshunt Station, and over the level crossing. Just after the crossing, you'll see a small parking area on the left. Park there, and keep your dog on a lead if they're likely to bolt off - trains pass frequently, and the lane leads down to a youth hostel and various sailing schools, none of which you'll want your dog investigating.

At the end of the car park area, you'll see the field. Head towards it, and keep walking north along the path. Keep your eyes left, and eventually you'll see the agility equipment. Wooden hoops, tunnels, A frames, hurdles and more - enough to keep an active dog interested and active.

Once you've had your fill of agility, walk along the canal path on the right hand side of the path, which is concrete and safe for buggies and wheelchairs (But beware of cyclists who come whizzing down), and check out the canal barges and locks.

The ground does get a bit boggy after rain, so bring your wellies if you're coming in rainy season.

Thanks so much for this; we walk a friend's dog from time to time and like to take her to more interesting places - this definitely qualified! Although we'd cycled the towpath a few times before we didn't know about this trail.

We went today and it was great! Lots of open space and the agility equipment was lots of fun. Having it spaces out makes each find good fun for the dogs and means more than one dog can have a go at one time.

Our dog Rex loved the agility equipment and running in the field. Great space with River which he jumped in and ran along the bank on the other side. We will be back for sure!
