Christmas will undoubtedly be very different this year for families up and down the UK. One thing's the same though, a Christmas dog walk is a great way to burn off the big dinner and get some fresh air. Here's five of the most popular locations to discover this winter.
Roddlesworth Reservoirs And Tockholes Plantation, Lancashire
The Tockholes plantations surround the two Roddlesworth reservoirs and are excellent for dog walking. I'd even say the combination of woods with mostly off lead walking, well defined paths, a nice river for the dogs to paddle in, and a fantastic real ale pub at the start/finish (or both!) offers the best dog walk in the area. Brean Beach, Somerset
Brean has a beautiful 3 mile beach with exciting sand dunes to explore, it is possible to walk along the beach and then climb up Brean Down for a lovely view of the countryside and over the water. Even better, dogs are welcome all year around so as well as a lovely walk it makes a great day out for the family. View walk →
Heatherhall Woods, Ladybank, Fife
Heatherhall Woods is a lovely place to walk the dog. It's great in winter as the trees shelter you from the worst of the wind and it's cool in the height of summer. A series of pathways intersect the wood which gives you a choice of routes. View walk →
Titchfield Canal, Hampshire
A walk along the old canal in Titichfield, Fareham. Can be very muddy in winter when the canal water levels are up, but fine with boots. It can be as long or short as you want as its a there and back type walk. View walk →
Garwnant, Merthyr Tydfil
Garwnant has over 400 acres of pristine forest, hills and waterfalls to explore. There are numerous paths to follow or you can go off route. The forest is beautiful, peaceful and tranquil. View walk →
