Despite its name, this amble in December is less muddy than the ones in local woods. This is because the path takes you around the edge of the bog and some of it is along board walks. The centre is an internationally important lowland bog with many rare plants and animals. However, the fact that the path follows the border means that the interior remains safe and the dog can walk without risk to wildlife.
The first part of the walk is a bit of a dog walking highway, however few seem to venture into Emer Bog.

This is our dogs favourite place. We walk it several times a week as it is local to us. Wellies are a must in all months unless it has been dry for sometime. The board walk its self isn't too bad it's the footpaths to it that can be very muddy. The place has a "new forest" feel to it as ponys and cattle roam free within the reserve. -

The marker is slightly out. Emer bog is located off Green Lane. From the marker head towards Romsey. Turn left in to Halterworth lane by the Manderin Cheff restaurant. Cross the level crossing and turn left at the junction on to highWood Lane. Follow the road until a sharp right bend. Turn left into Green Lane next to Stroud School. Follow the road for about a mile and the entrance is on the right next to Emer Farm. There is parking for two cars, three at a push. -

We did this walk yesterday (22/04/2020) and it was beautiful. It helped that the sun was shining but it was a mixture of open field so that the dog could run and also forest areas so she could go exploring. I think someone before likened it to the New Forest which I agree with. Be careful though, our dog Remy did go in the bog which was a bit scary (and she got very dirty) but other than that she had a wonderful time. Will definitely be back.
