About this walk

Swanwick Nature Reserve can be found at the end of Sopwith Way to the rear of the National Air Traffic site in Swanwick. There is a small car park but if necessary, you can park (considerately) along Sopwith Way. The Nature reserve consists of three walks marked red (short), blue (around the lake) and yellow (longest). By following the marked posts it is possible to do a combination. Poo bins are provided along the walk routes. We found this to be a very pleasant walk but be prepared for some inclines which can be a bit slippery underfoot at certain times. As this is a Nature Reserve, please ensure you pick up and are mindful of the wildlife!!

Dog owners should be aware that there are barbed wire fences in sections of this walk. Our Lab caught herself on one this morning and needed a trip to the vet for some staples in the wound and antibiotics. It is still a nice walk, but please note.

I live very close to the nature reserve and tend to take Rosco there most weekends. As an add on to the walk there is a path from the reserve down to the River Hamble and you can make a loop, by then walking up Coalpike Lane, back on to Swanwick Lane, and back into the reserve.

Hello all. Please note that this is a nature reserve managed for the benefit of wildlife by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. It is regularly used by school childre for education visits so it is vitally important that you take note of signs, ALWAYS pick up after your dog and keep your dog close to you, in sight and/or on a lead. Had a lovely walk in the sunshine today. Keep an eye out for fisherman if you take your dog they are friendly but you need to watch their bait.

We love this walk. It can be extended by walking down to the Hamble and tracking back to the nature reserve, skirting the NATS fence. Be aware that cows often graze in the reserve in summer and can be found in the most unexpected places, so dogs need to be on leads.
